What could pop up? A Dragonite? An Entei? Maybe something Unown to him? Or an actual Unown, that would be neat too. But what came about was something that Josh definitely did not expect. And that was a Larvitar, and not just any, but one with an unusual color. Not wanting to spook it, Josh would dart into cover and motion for Lightning to do the same.

Unfortunately, it was too late. As the ground had already started rumbling.

“Aw, shit” the blonde muttered as he peered out to see the Larvitar using Earthquake. The two of them would be forced to dart out of cover as said cover would soon sink into the earth. Thinking quickly, he would send out Franklin, his Tirtouga. “Water Gun” he told the Tirtouga as they would fire at the Larvitar while Josh tried to find new cover. Larvitar would be blindsided by the attack, but would shake it and go for Iron Head. At Josh. Who had just found another boulder to cover behind. The Larvitar shattered the boulder, and this gave Franklin time to pelt it once again. This time, Josh shot a Safari Ball at it.

Larvitar’s Pokeball would click, indicating that the tiny tyrant was finally quelled. Returning his Pokemon back to their Pokeball with a pat on the head, he and Lightning would pick up the Pokeball for Larvitar and continue in earnest. It wasn’t long before they would reach the grasslands, and a Bulbasaur sniffing flowers. Though by its body language, Josh could tell something. It was hungry. Likely sniffing the flowers looking for nectar. After the combat hell he’d just gone through, he thought of a way to set up a change of pace…

CRUNCH!

Bulbasaur jumped as a bag of chips were opened, and Josh began crunching at them, offering some to Lightning. “Hey buddy, want some chips?” he asked the Bulbasaur, who looked to the Raichu when it noticed the Raichu was also eating chips. While clearly quite hesitant, it eventually took a few steps forward as Josh offered one. Once it had eaten the chip, he gingerly tapped the Safari Ball to its bulb.

With white claws, the Drilbur was the next to appear. Now this one was interesting, as this was actually one of the ones on the brochure that Josh was looking for. Knowing that his time in the Safari Zone was running short, he was glad he had been able to run into this one. The question now was: How to catch it?

There wasn’t much chance to consider as the thing used Dig upon sighting him. Josh took a deep breath. This wan’t going to be easy if it could dig underground. But then it hit him. Sending out his Swampert, he called for Dunamus to use Muddy Water.

“Sorry about this little buddy” said Josh as he took a page out of his wife’s playbook. The water soon smoked little buddy out, and Josh would toss the ball at it while it was stunned.
